WINSTON LEE MASCARENHAS | AND SO IT GOES

We all have our challenges in life. No one is immune. And at times it affects our ability as artists to physically be creative. There can be many reasons; being without a studio or work place, family/personal responsibilities that take our time, mental/emotional/physical challenges, Covid, aging, and the list goes on. I pose the question, does the mind diminish in it’s creative spirit, it’s constant conceptual thinking? My experience, thank goodness, it does not. Thus the frustration magnifies. Since early 2020 I’ve noticeably been less productive. I’ve met the challenges by working small, finishing large projects slowly, and expressing my creativity by working at the table or even sitting with work in my lap. I’ve pushed processes and techniques, experimented with new materials, incorporated textiles/weaving/stitching, and pushed installation. My love of painting continues but my practice expands, pushed by more time thinking than actual doing. So my work manifests in many ways, not just one visual or thematic idea. Good news, my challenges are resolving and my strength and time to physically create improving......And So It Goes!
