ARTIST STATEMENT
Guided by a deep belief that nature is the greatest teacher, my work is rooted in direct observation and long-term engagement with the landscape. After early experiences drawing outdoors, I returned to plein air painting during graduate school and have continued ever since, embracing both its challenges and rewards.
Working on site has shaped my ability to simplify, respond quickly, and capture the essence of constantly changing light and atmosphere. A particular pond, which I have painted for over two decades, has become a lasting source of inspiration and growth.
While painting outdoors remains central to my process, I also incorporate photography and a range of media—including oil, watercolor, pastel, and mixed media—to explore fleeting moments and deepen my response. Whether working on site or from photographs, my goal is to convey the spirit, energy, and sensory experience of a place.
Ultimately, I strive to create work that immerses the viewer—inviting them to feel as though they are standing within the landscape itself.
