Eos, Mixed media on cradled wood panel, 36 x 48 in
ARTIST STATEMENT
I completed my sixth year of painting “full time” end of 2025. My experience as an artist has taken me on a tour “around the world and back.” Initially, I worked solely with encaustic (beeswax and damar resin) on cradled wood panels. As time progressed, I expanded my medium to include oils, cold wax, collage, assemblage, and acrylic paint often mixed with graphite powder and burnished to create a metallic sheen. My extensive experimentation and understanding of various materials brought me back to the place from whence I came…painting with encaustic.
The use of encaustic is what I love most and thus I have returned “home” using melted beeswax and damar resin to create art. My exposure and training in the use of multimedia have allowed me to push boundaries and deepen my understanding of how to create art using encaustic. I am expanding the use of encaustic onto various substrates, building up texture using applied and/or embedded materials. I am also dedicating myself to learning from artists whose work I respect and who initially inspired me to become an artist.
Returning home is about expressing myself and the great appreciation I have for art and architecture through my paintings. This return home is my way of returning to who I am and truly applying myself to create art that reflects design principles and techniques that I value and appreciate the most.
