ARTIST STATEMENT
As an artist working in metal and enamel and writing haiku poetry, I have formed vessels that reflect themes, colors, textures, as well as the beauty, severity, and mystery of the natural world. The Earth, its plants and animals, geography, and landscape, inspire me to convey some of the emotional response to being present in the wilderness.
Pieces that I’ve done in the past, such as Fading Beauty and Cannot Endure, focus on the erosion of diversity in the natural world, primarily due to humanity's urge to thrive at the expense of all else and a misunderstanding of the interconnectedness of things. Pollution, habitat loss, the introduction of invasive species, unregulated hunting and fishing, and overpopulation have been issues that concern me and which I have addressed in my artwork.
How much should we take?
And what should we leave behind?
Have we gone too far?
This cannot endure.
We were never meant to be
The only ones left
