ARTIST STATEMENT
Chris Stewart is a visual artist based in Dallas whose work explores the relationship between nature, time, and memory through layered, gestural painting. His paintings reflect the quiet transformations that shape landscapes and, in turn, our own internal sense of change. Rather than depicting fixed scenes, Stewart’s work registers moments of transition—subtle shifts in atmosphere, light, and feeling.
His surfaces are built through intuitive, painterly movements that incorporate varied textures, color, and the unpredictability of drips and washes. These elements introduce a sense of fragility and impermanence, echoing the passage of time and the instability of memory. Marks are allowed to accumulate, dissolve, and reassert themselves, creating compositions that feel both deliberate and in flux.
Bridging representation and abstraction, Stewart’s work invites viewers to linger in a space where meaning remains open. The paintings function as meditations on change itself—on how mood, memory, and time shape not only what we see, but how we come to understand what we feel.
