ARTIST STATEMENT
Drawing has been my first connection with art and my first language of communication. The interest in drawing, as well as digital media, led me to pursue a degree in Graphic Design at university.
However, my vocation for art was stronger, and I began to delve into the artistic world by attending workshops and lectures. While graphic design provided me with valuable visual communication tools, it wasn’t enough to put my expressive resources entirely at the service of design; I wanted to communicate my ideas, thoughts, and feelings. I had to create art.
I have always had a deep interest in delving into the methods of classical painting and drawing, and since I could not access an academic training in classical art on my early years, my artistic training came mostly through daily practice. My mother, the fine artist Ona Riquelme, was a key role model and mentor in developing my artistic language through “Symbolic Realism.”
Symbolic Realism is a mechanism that helps me give meaning to my artistic project and is inscribed on an invisible triple boundary between realism, surrealism, and romanticism. This allows me to connect two aspects of reality that concern me: the material and spiritual dimension of nature.
I conceive art as a medium at the service of something Supreme, as a decoder of hidden messages in nature that present themselves to me as symbols that provide a gateway to a profound and transcendent universe.
Life extends beyond matter, in those spaces where the Being dwells and energy flows to manifest the most sublime beauty. As the veils are drawn back, Consciousness manifests in mysterious ways.
Looking outward is actually looking inward.
I observe the external world as a mirror of my soul, inviting me to traverse it toward deeper dimensions in search of the Being.
