Eos, Mixed media on cradled wood panel, 36 x 48 in

ARTIST STATEMENT

I am in my fifth year of painting “full time.” I have studied and practiced architecture, and am a great fan of minimalist architecture and art. My paintings are intended to bridge my appreciation for both into architectural paintings that reflect on the power of minimalist, contemporary designs.

Initially, I worked solely with encaustic (beeswax and damar resin) on cradled wood panels. As time progressed, I expanded my medium to include oils and cold wax. Eventually, I became interested in collage, and assemblage, and began working at a larger scale with a much broader palette. Finally, and most recently, I began painting with acrylic paint often mixed with graphite powder and burnished to create a metallic effect.

My comprehensive use of materials, and status as an artist, can be viewed in my most recent works which will be displayed in an upcoming exhibition entitled “diversity”. The works reflect my diverse use of materials and my appreciation for things that are not all the same. I appreciate materials, and people, being different. It is the differences that create beauty, and it is the beauty of their differences that makes for an interesting and wonderful world.
