INSPIRATION
Beauty envisioned through introspection is the inspiration for my art.
Over the years I have developed a personal aesthetic based on
subjectivity, drawing upon my imagination, as well as imagery from
poetry and mystical literature, through experimental processes. I feel
a deep creative empathy with nature, and the patterns, textures, and
rhythms of my natural surroundings are expressed in many layers of
translucent color.
PAINT & A SENSE OF PLACE
The main body of my work consists of paintings in oil and alkyd on
canvas. I mix much of my own paint and apply several layers of
textures and glazing. Most paintings are close to landscape and have
a strong sense of place. But freed from any specific narrative, they
create quiet, quiescent spaces of beauty which invite the viewer t
reflection. Right now my work is in transition, as the paintings are
becoming lighter and brighter, and more reductively abstract. The
sense of place is more metaphoric than literal.
