My Grandfather was a coal-mine blacksmith. I sculpt steel. It starts
with dirt, survives the wind and ends in the sky.
I sculpt steel. I work steel to contrast form with the industrial properties
of iron. I am concerned with creating interactions of planes, arches,
and the play of shadow with the environment. I want people to
physically interact with the sculptures that focus on expression through
abstracted form.
My artistic aesthetic springs from the flat West Texas land with steel trees
of oil rigs and pump jacks. Under the direction of my father and
West Texas teachers, I began sculpting and painting; I studied art a
multiple universities and museum schools, with a degree from the
University of Texas at Austin. My paternal grandfather was a coal mine
blacksmith. My sculpture is a continuation of this iron and steelwork.
It starts with dirt, survives the wind and ends in the sky.
