| Artist's Statement |
The inspiration behind all of my paintings reflects my observation of
people. Our bodies are vessels that hold our life histories. We are
caught unawares in our state of watching, watching, and watching.
Layers of hidden, unexpressed emotions from our past rise to the
surface of our beings looking for expression or escape through our
eyes into the atmosphere. It's as if this past energy seeks light to restore
balance to ourselves. Yet underneath the layers we accumulate, inside
us lays a silent beauty of ancient wisdom. Through our rawness, I see
this beauty.
I am influenced by the contemplative portraits of David Parks and
Modigliani. Recent works are exploring different surface techniques o
the canvas using a diverse mix of oil, latex, pencil, and marker.
