My art is a personal artistic journey that begins with an observation of
nature, and ends up in an abstract creation. The beauty of nature, its
color, texture and energy attract and inspire me. In particular, I find<
the tree trunk to be nature's most intriguing object. When the trunk is
sliced horizontally it reveals a repetitive and meditative pattern of rings.
When sliced vertically, it reveals a more complex and puzzling linear
and circular patterns. Such duality is a great metaphor for my own
creative process. On some days, I like to deal with the relaxing rings
pattern. On others, I am ready to deal with more complex and
complicated patterns that involve my own inner thoughts.
But when I am in the studio, nature no longer rules. I let the process
and the material dictate the rules, blending together memorized
images and my inner visions. As my work becomes less calculated
and more intuitive, it allows serendipity and chance take a decisive
role in the end result.
My challenge is to juxtapose the seen with the unseen, the external
with the internal and the real with the imagined, to create a new
reality with a strong visual presence.
The Branched & Rooted series deals with the challenge of juxtaposing
and blending the organic with the geometric. This series emulates the
personal challenge I face in the studio, where my thoughts and
knowledge contrast with the feelings that nature inspired in my heart.
And just like in nature, a plant looks very organic on the outside,
although a thorough observation under a microscope reveals amazing
geometric patterns. These constant clashes transform into a new art
work with an identity combining and balancing the geometric with
the organic
